Over the last year, John and I have picked up a few things for when we finish our bathroom.
Then we picked up a huge mirror at Ross of all places,
then John found this vanity at Big Lots.
So when John went to Atlanta this week for training, so I figured I would keep myself busy and take down the wallpaper in the bathroom, which I have disliked since we moved in.
Then prime and paint and when John got home, we could hang the mirror, install the sconces and put in the vanity.
Before I started, it looked like this
(ha ha, I just realized these were from Christmas!)
My neighbor down the street gave me a leftover bottle of Diff wallpaper remover when I told her I was going to finally take down the wallpaper. Worked like a charm. I skipped the scoring step and just sprayed (or rolled ) it on the top, pulled the top layer off, then did the same to the backing that was left. I worked on it for 2 days for less than 2 hours each time. So now it looks like this.
Notice there is no shower head, just a tub. which is why we have a shower in our laundry room.
But after pulling the wallpaper I found this:
Wood, instead of plaster, around the tub. So instead of priming and painting, I'm leaving it like this until John gets home Saturday and we decide what to do.
I'm thinking of putting up beadboard. Eventually we want to put tile up around the tub (like John and Sherry did in their bathroom re-do from Young House Love) and plumb in a shower head, but that isn't in the budget for right now.
So right now I'm looking for beadboard bathroom pictures and trying to decide a color to paint. I took Jacci's (from homeforthebetter) advice and am using Benjamin Moore's White Dove on all our trim. I may use the Micro tan from the playroom in the bathroom, which was my original plan, but I painted a spot and it almost looks too yellow. I'm going to wait a few days and see how I like it.

awwww! you've come so far!! Those sconces were a GREAT find, they are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your remodel, I bet you are so anxious for him to get home!
Wow - you just removed all that wallpaper by your little ol' self? Impressive! I think bathroom renos are super exciting because they're usually on the smaller side and everything makes such a huge impact. Looks like you've scored some great deals so far. Fun!
ReplyDeleteAnd *thank you* for the sweet mention :) I hope you like the color as much as we do.
XO,
Jacci
I couldn't believe the deals we've found so far! I think the most expensive thing will be tile, but we'll come in way under what we had originally thought.
ReplyDeleteJacci-I LOVE the color!! It is so perfect for trim!!
